The North Shore Golf Club has active junior programmes. The club has a rich history of supplying many players for North Harbour and New Zealand representative teams and is proud of the effort that goes into producing good players and good young citizens.
The clubs' programme has three different elements, coaching, playing and competing.
Junior membership 11 years and older
Coaching - the club provides a free junior coaching clinic for NSGC juniors members every Saturday for those aged 6-14 years from 2pm-3pm. This session is managed by two PGA professionals and covers skills, technique and has a major emphasis on fun and learning.
Tee booking - Juniors over the age of 10 will be given a login for online tee booking so they can gain access to a large range of tee times across the week. Some restrictions do apply.
Competing - Upon gaining a course handicap those aged 11 and older can play in the Sunday morning junior tee allocations. We encourage the participants to arrive earlier than their allotted tee time as the draw is then re-shuffled. We believe that mixing with players other than their friends enables them to learn social skills as well as improve their golf. This is also great way to become introduced to the competitive side of the game. Club trophies and competition credits are available for those that achieve good results.
Junior starter membership 6-10 years
The club has recently introduced a new junior category. The 6-10 years, Junior starter membership. This is designed to manage a safe introduction to the club. Click on the PDF below for more information.
NSGC junior academy
Annually, a committee decides on a group of players to make up the junior academy. These players receive coaching and other benefits from the club.
The following players form the academy for 2013.
Nicholas Cope, Jay Law, Chang Gi Lee, Sai Ma, Jaehyoung Park, Shani White and Peter Witton.
